Fiona’s Career Journey

I grew up in regional Queensland as the first in my family to attend university—a transformative experience that shaped my passion for education and equity. Beginning my career as a high school teacher, I nurtured a love for learning in young minds before pursuing a PhD in literature. During this time, I combined teaching, guest lecturing, and research to deepen my understanding of how storytelling and education empower individuals and communities.

My journey led me to the public service, where I spent five years designing and managing programs in policy, learning and development, and capability building. These experiences reinforced my belief in the power of education and mentorship to drive meaningful change. Returning to higher education, I joined the Australian National University, where I’ve spent the past six years managing scholarships and leadership programs, helping talented young people grow as leaders and change-makers.

With 20 years of experience across education, public service, and leadership, I am passionate about inspiring and empowering women in professional roles. As a feminist and advocate for equity, I mentor, run workshops, and share stories that help others find their voice and lead with confidence. Looking ahead, I am excited to expand my services by adding coaching, continuing my mission to help women unlock their full potential and create lasting impact.
